Contemplating Valletta No.3 (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Elizabeth McDonough

After escaping the confines of my studio in Malta during covid and headed out solo on the Via Francigena in Italy, hiking 135km from Rome to Montefiascone. Each village I passed through involved steep winding cobbled streets, old buildings and history.
I have a new appreciation for my surroundings in Malta. There is beauty in the ancient buildings, the peeling paint, the natural muted colours. I love to wander and get lost in them.
Rustic Street Collection. This series of paintings are different from my previous work but still involve texture.
Using textured medium I created these little 3D higgledy piggledy houses in muted umber, buff and greys.
