I adore botanical detail and I create images with plenty of them, focusing in on tiny stamens, petal texture, colours, gestures and more.

I love to style simple arrangements of a few selected flowers to highlight their forms and details, especially if there are bendy stems. Here the Lupin is accompanied by Ranunculus and Icelandic Poppies. Lupin leaves are fascinating - I was so happy to get the light directed to the one in the centre. The emerging poppy buds are so compelling as they work through their various stages of growth.

My work is created by arranging flowers repeatedly until I find a pleasing composition and then photographed traditionally using natural light. Digital adjustments are made to optimise the shadows, blacks and highlights.
