Complementary is two paintings in one — as the name suggests, opposite in color, yet complementary in form and in the continuity of movement between them. The characters that inhabit each canvas, drawn in detail, build a story that spills over from one painting into the other. The contrasting colors speak to Valdivia's native spring flora — amancay and chilco — set against the region's rivers and heavy winter rain. Vertical installation is suggested, though there's freedom to adapt to whatever space the work is shown in.
