CHOICE | Conceptual Minimalist Ink Artwork

Contemporary conceptual artwork exploring autonomy, vulnerability, and the emotional weight of personal choice. Created with layers of red ink on transparent plastic, this original minimalist composition transforms a simple circular form into a powerful visual symbol. Through restrained imagery and expressive material, the work reflects on the relationship between the body, freedom, and the universal human right to self-determination.

CHOICE was created in 2020 during a period of deep reflection on women’s lives across different generations. While researching stories about motherhood, reproductive rights, and the realities faced by women throughout history, I became increasingly aware of how often decisions about their own bodies were shaped—or taken away—by external forces. That emotional response gradually evolved into this minimal visual language.

At the center of the composition, a translucent red circle becomes an open symbol rather than a fixed image. It may suggest a womb, a heartbeat, a wound, a cell, a pulse, or simply the fragile boundary between life and personal freedom. Its ambiguity allows every viewer to bring their own experience and interpretation to the work.

Rather than illustrating a specific event, the artwork addresses a broader human question: who has the right to make decisions about one’s own body and future? The composition remains intentionally minimal so that emotion emerges through color, material, and silence rather than narrative.

Created using layered red ink on transparent plastic, the work explores the expressive qualities of transparency, light, and negative space. The floating circular form appears to shift depending on surrounding light, emphasizing both the physical fragility and symbolic strength of the image. A red frame extends the composition, becoming an integral part of the artwork rather than simply its presentation.

Balancing conceptual minimalism with emotional intensity, CHOICE reflects on dignity, bodily autonomy, resilience, and the importance of individual freedom. It is both a quiet meditation and a powerful visual statement that invites reflection long after the first encounter.

The work resonates with collectors of conceptual art, minimalist abstraction, feminist art, socially engaged contemporary art, and viewers who appreciate artworks that combine simplicity with profound emotional and cultural meaning.
