Chasing the Light (2026) Original Oil Painting by Michelle Gibbs

This painting was born out of my love of the land and years spent simply watching the light. There's something about the way the sun hits the sea that I've observed again and again over time, and this piece is my abstract impression of that moment, all that warmth and movement captured in colour.

Painted in oils on a large 80 x 80 cm canvas, it's bold and expressive, built up in layers of rich, glowing colour that shift and catch the light just as the real thing does. It's the kind of piece that brings the outdoors in, and I hope it gives you that same feeling of standing by the water, watching the sun break through.
