The orange border is the ship's hull, but it is also the bezel of an instrument. Before satellites, sailors calibrated their instruments against the horizon and the stars, correcting for drift, trusting a circle to tell them the truth about an ocean that never stopped moving beneath them.

This is painted on heavy duty canvas, with minimal dry paint, applied by small brushes, almost obsessively caressing the canvas so that colour will interact with colours beneath them. The edges are kept clean through the painting so that its ready to hang without a frame.
