The Dutch Garden (2025) Original Oil Painting by Angie Wright

The Dutch Garden is my contemporary celebration of the timeless beauty of floral still life. Inspired by the richness and abundance of the Dutch Masters, I wanted to create a bouquet that feels alive with movement, colour and joyful energy rather than muted perfection. Layers of expressive brushwork, dripped paint and gestural marks build a vibrant arrangement of luminous blue hydrangeas, soft blush roses and fresh spring flowers, all gathered in a simple glass bowl. Every brushstroke adds to the sense of spontaneity, inviting the viewer to discover new details each time they look. Although rooted in the tradition of classic floral painting, this large contemporary work brings a fresh, modern spirit to the genre, filling the space with light, optimism and the feeling of a garden in full bloom.
