Blackberry Delight (2021) Original Acrylic Painting by Galina Zimmatore

Blackberry Delight is an original semi-abstract painting inspired by the rich colour, texture and abundance of summer blackberries.

I wanted to capture more than the appearance of the fruit itself — the deep purple-black tones, irregular shapes and almost sculptural quality of blackberries when they are gathered together. The painting moves between recognisable fruit and abstraction, allowing the berries to become part of a larger composition of colour, texture and movement.

I created the work through many layers of acrylic paint and mixed media, using opaque flakes, modelling paste, gel mediums, Liquitex Professional spray paint and acrylic primers. I repeatedly sanded areas of the surface back between stages, allowing earlier layers and marks to reappear and creating a strong three-dimensional texture.

The painting is created on a substantial wooden cradle board, with the textured surface forming an important part of the artwork's character.
