This one started without a plan. I built the dark form in layers, working wet-into-wet so the black would pick up traces of what came before it — you can still see some of that underneath if you look closely. I used a wide brush for most of the mass, then went back with drier passes to break up the surface and keep it from going flat. The lavender and the orange were painted first, and I let the black push into them rather than stopping cleanly at an edge, so the boundary between the two stayed rough. I wasn't after resolution between the cool and the warm side — I wanted them to keep pulling against each other, so the painting reads differently depending on where your eye lands first.
