‘Better Together’ (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Kathryn Sillince

I imagine this painting to mean togetherness of some sort, connectivity, intimacy, with just enough space to let the other breathe and co-exist. Like a family or friendship group, represented through vibrant thriving leaves and passion flowers.

This painting feels like a lush, dreamlike garden distilled into emotion rather than realism. Large, stylized leaves dominate the canvas, overlapping and radiating outward like petals in bloom. Warm, saturated hues—crimson, coral, magenta, and orange—set against a soft pink background that makes everything feel sunlit and alive. The shapes are organic but exaggerated, almost anatomical, giving the leaves a bodily, intimate quality.

Abundance and vitality is abound. The repetition of leaf forms suggests growth, cycles, and regeneration, while the variations in texture—some smooth and glowing, others mottled or veined—hint at individuality within that repetition. The faint, cooler green foliage in the background recedes, letting the bold foreground forms take center stage, like a celebration of life at its peak. Everything is connected.

Emotionally, the piece can be read as an exploration of sensuality, nature, and inner energy. The warm colour palette and soft edges evoke heat, passion, and even vulnerability. It feels both tropical and internal—like a landscape of the body or the psyche. There’s also a quiet balance between control and spontaneity: the composition is deliberate, but the brushwork and colour blending are expressive and free.
