Artwork description
A cluster of bare-branched trees stands before a two-story gate at a temple in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, their twisting trunks crossing the frame like dark brushstrokes. Behind them, the gate's red and green painted structure rises beneath a curved tiled roof, a black signboard with white calligraphy marking its upper story. Stone steps lead up through the open doorway toward the compound beyond, flanked by whitewashed stone walls. Late-autumn hills, some still holding faded color, rise in the background, the light thin and grey around the bare trees. A paved courtyard stretches out in the foreground, scattered with fallen leaves and framed by low stone walls to either side. Additional temple roofs peek out beyond the gate on both sides, hinting at the wider compound hidden from view. The trees, stripped of leaves and leaning at gentle angles, create a natural screen through which the gate is only partly revealed, lending the scene a hushed, wintry stillness.
