Suspended between earth and sky, Civita di Bagnoregio rises from its eroded cliffs like a place that time has almost forgotten, yet somehow continues to preserve. Founded by the Etruscans in the 6th century BC, this ancient village stands upon fragile terrain shaped by centuries of wind and rain.

I am drawn to the extraordinary tension between its stone buildings and the ravines below: the slender bell tower, the clustered rooftops and the bridge stretching across the abyss towards a place that seems to belong to another age.

I chose to photograph the scene with deliberately desaturated tones, revealing a palette of smoky greys, faded mauves, weathered browns and soft ivory.
The pale cliffs emerge against the darker folds of the surrounding hills, while a luminous band of clouds separates the distant mountains from the deep, shadowed sky, lending the composition a sense of solemn grandeur.

There is something profoundly moving about this place: "sic transit gloria mundi" — thus passes the glory of the world.
Yet Civita does not feel like a ruin surrendering to oblivion. It feels like a witness, quietly enduring while the landscape around it changes and recedes.
