Baggböle 5/5 (2026) Etchings & engravings by Bart Demeestere
30 x 21cm (unframed) / 21 x 15cm (actual image size)
£171.03
Artwork description
Baggböle stands on the banks of the Ume River, a few kilometres west of the city. This was the site of one of Umeå's early hydroelectric power stations, in operation from 1916 to 1958. What remains is the concrete shell, a vaulted turbine shaft, open to the sky, with still water on the floor.
In that space, sculptor Fredrik Wretman placed the work 8 11, part of Konstvägen Sju Älvar, a 35-kilometre art trail running from Holmsund to Borgafjäll. An orange figure, a copy of the artist himself, sits cross-legged, reflected in the black water.
This is a unique state print: every impression from the same plate is made individually through painting with coffee and watercolour. No two are identical. I have only made 5 of them; this is number 5.
Materials used:
alukraft plate, Akua intaglio ink, coffee, watercolour paper 200gsm
