Seated casually on the edge of her bed, a young woman turns towards the viewer as though someone has just called her name. Her relaxed pose, bare shoulder and direct gaze create a subtle sense of intimacy, while the scattered objects around her — a delicate string of pearls, perfume, lipstick and jewellery — quietly reveal the world of femininity and personal rituals that exists backstage, away from the eyes of others.

The scene feels spontaneous, almost cinematic. Nothing has been arranged for the viewer; instead, we seem to have arrived at precisely the right moment and caught her between one part of her life and the next.
