Anza-Borrego Desert, California — 2009
The ocotillo stands alone here, its long whip-thin canes reaching skyward from a single woody crown — leafless, waiting on rain that may not come for months. This is a plant built for patience: dormant more often than not, ready to green overnight the moment a storm passes through, then just as quickly let go again.
There's a stillness to this place that's hard to describe until you've stood in it — a dry heat that presses down without urgency, a quiet that isn't empty so much as vast. The land opens out in every direction, nothing to interrupt the eye, nothing hurried about any of it. Around the ocotillo, the desert floor holds its own quiet census — cholla, dry brush, scattered stone — all of it worn down to the essentials by heat and time.
Beyond, the hills fold away toward a valley settlement, small and distant, a reminder of how little room this landscape leaves for anything but the hardiest forms of life. The light is hard and clear, a high desert blue overhead, the kind of sky that gives no shade and asks for none.

Every print I sell is made in my own studio and checked for every detail and quality before I pack it for shipping. I use plastic free packaging.
The paper I use is the finest quality and after years of experimenting, I find it gives the best tonal range and finish.
