To stand together and look back across all the ground you have covered is its own kind of quiet celebration. The years are the gift, not the looking back.
Anniversary is an original acrylic painting on board, 75 x 60cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a wide landscape of green and gold, cockatoos gathered in the trees, and two figures standing together at the highest point, looking out over all the ground they have covered.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the particular stillness of a milestone, not the marking of it, but the quiet act of standing together and looking back.
Painted with artist quality acrylics on MDF board. Unframed, any framed images shown are for illustration only. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.
