Always the sun (2020) Original Acrylic Painting by Ralf Schmidt

For me, “Always the Sun” is a painting about what remains. The open, textured space does not depict a specific landscape. Instead, it becomes a reflection of inner landscapes – of moods, thoughts and hopes. Small openings in the surface reveal glimpses of a deeper space, suggesting something that may still lie ahead. Above it all is the sun: only hinted at, almost transparent, yet impossible to overlook. It reminds me that the sun is always there, even when we cannot see it for a while. Every new day brings it back – and with it the possibility of beginning again. Elements that quietly accompany my other paintings as their background are isolated here and made the subject of the work itself.
