Original artwork description
While my artwork is clearly abstract and intuitive rather than representational, Alder reflects the spirit of South Australia with its native flora, from the hills to the beach; organic, resilient, sun-soaked, and a bit wild. My signature is my highly textured, multi-layered painting. You can see elongated, upright, finger-like shapes clustered together which are very reminiscent of iconic SA kangaroo paw flowers. Some of the broader, oval and paddle-shaped forms feel like exaggerated eucalyptus leaves or succulent coastal plants, and several are grouped together in heart shapes. The heart shapes reflect my love for South Australia having made Adelaide my home for the past 10 years. The earthy reds, ochres, greens, and muted blues sit comfortably within our vibrant landscape palette; where the arid, hilly inland meets coastal light and clear, open blue skies. Alder was painted as a joyous moment of celebration of living here.
