Abstract roses (2023) Original Mixed-media Painting by Olga Onopko
34 x 49 x 1cm (unframed)
£201.67
Original artwork description
This painting is my experiment with texture and color. There are no familiar outlines here, and the title "Abstract Roses" is more of a key to perception than an exact description of the subject. I did not paint specific buds; I tried to convey the very sensation of them — their density, their velvety quality, and the way they dissolve into patches of color when viewed up close.
The work is executed in oil and acrylic on thick cardboard. At the heart of this piece lies my original patented technique, Otlipaint. It is precisely this that allowed me to achieve that very effect: acrylic dries quickly and makes it possible to build dense, almost tangible layers, while oil adds depth and softness. There is no clear center in the composition. The eye glides across the surface, catching now bright flashes of fuchsia, now deep olive-green recesses, now golden highlights. For me, this work is about fragility and at the same time about the density of matter: the roses here exist not as an object, but as a state — they blossom and crumble at the same time, turning into pure painting.
Cardboard as a base gives a special graphic quality and rigidity that contrasts with the softness of the oil strokes. This painting is for those who value tactility and are ready to examine it up close, finding new details in every layer of paint.
