A Private View (2021) Photograph by Kamila Karpinska

A Private View captures a quiet, intimate moment framed by an open window and the rooftops of a small Croatian town. A woman sits in silhouette, holding a glass of wine, absorbed in the atmosphere of a warm summer day. The contrast between the dark interior and the bright architecture outside creates a cinematic composition, where the window becomes a frame within the frame. The image explores the relationship between privacy and the outside world, presence and distance, stillness and observation. Working in black and white allowed me to focus on light, shape and atmosphere rather than colour. I wanted to preserve the feeling of a private moment, something quietly observed, yet open to the viewer’s own interpretation.
