Original artwork description
My work is often a journey into the world of dreams and strange, internal dialogues, and "Night" is an intimate exploration of that space. For this long, horizontal piece, I wanted to create a narrative that is both intimate and ambiguous, like a private performance that the viewer has just chanced upon.
I present a frieze of connected beings. The two central figures, with their elongated, melancholic features and focused expressions, are the agents. They are interconnected: one works meticulously with thin green strings, a delicate act of binding and perhaps control, while the other, with her eyes closed, exists in a more introspective state, her figure partially merging with a curious, double-peaked hood structure that seems to hold the other's gaze. This visual layering of figures is something I often use to represent complex relationships and shared consciousness.
To the left, this human narrative gives way to a more otherworldly, almost theatrical display. A white, long-snouted figure, with its delicate collar of blue rosettes, stands before a strange, bust-like animal head on a ruffled stand. The presence of thin stick legs on both figures implies a puppet or a scale model, adding a layer of artificiality or performance. The dark, patterned tapestry of blues, purples, and deep reds provides a rich, complex background that absorbs and contains this nocturnal scene, giving it the quality of a forgotten, antique illustration.
With "Night", I strive to create figures that feel timeless, caught between a gentle grace and a deep, underlying mystery. This painting is an invitation to enter a quiet, beautiful, and slightly unsettling landscape of the mind.
