Under a Restless Sky (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Olivia Miles

Fragments of navy, charcoal and burnt orange scatter loosely across a pale, cloud-like ground of blush, cream and soft blue; small, restless marks that never quite settle in one place.

The Story

Under a Restless Sky is part of The Sublime Horizon, a collection inspired by the fleeting beauty of a distant thunderstorm I watched roll across the horizon from my garden. From a place of safety, the storm transformed the sky into a luminous expanse of orange, immense natural power becoming unexpectedly serene. This piece captures the sky in its most unsettled state, fragments of colour drifting and shifting before anything has resolved into calm. Painted with bold colour, expressive brushwork and richly textured impasto, it explores the paradox at the heart of the sublime: the coexistence of awe and tranquillity, chaos and beauty.

Artwork for Your Home

There's an energy to this work that the others in the collection don't quite have. Those scattered, restless marks keep the eye moving across the whole canvas. A striking choice if you want a piece with real presence in a room.
