  • Biography
lla Preising works passionately with the material “stone”, because its properties fascinate her: Stone cannot easily be forced into a shape, it offers resistance and is “willful”, it demands perseverance. Giving it shape requires clarity and imagination, observation, intuition, pictorial thinking, expressiveness and the desire to be creative. She enters into a dialogue between her abstract form idea and tuning in with the natural movement of the stone. For Ulla Preising, working three-dimensionally with a material is a key to an expanded perception, because without material you cannot see any space, without material you cannot develop an idea.
In her compositions the starting point is far away, then she brings it closer, and it gains volume. Several lines can be recognized in her work: straight lines form basic mathematical forms, uneven lines from organic forms. The dynamic of the compositions lies in the relationship between these lines. For the sculptress, the connection between artistic creation and life is the invitation to all of us to give room to our own and other people's perceptions.
