About Stephen Key

  • Biography
I discovered metal refining & casting 7 years ago after building a backyard foundry with my daughter. I was moved by the spiritual parallels of collecting discarded trash, subjecting it to intense heat (human suffering), separating impurities (toxic behaviors) and pouring molten metals into new molds to create enduring beauty (human redemption). I began creating sculptures to serve as monuments for people/organizations who had walked alongside of me or others during periods of suffering to effectuate redemption of the hurting & discarded. Following a diving accident on December 31, 2020, that claimed my brother’s life and nearly mine, I walked away from a successful 28-year law practice to pursue my art full time. My studio/art foundry is named S3.0 Foundry (i.e. “Steve 3.0”) as a reflection of my post-accident rebirth. 100% of my metal is recycled from scrap.
