About Rebecca Talbot

  • Biography

I am a ceramic artist who also works with mixed-media assemblage to explore memory and the meaning of objects. My ceramic vessels and sculptures embrace imperfection, finding beauty in cracks, irregular forms, and repair. I also create sculptures from sentimental and found objects, giving new life to materials that carry personal history. My work is shaped by a tension between wanting to simplify my surroundings and wanting to hold on to meaningful objects. Having spent much of my life in rural Latin America, I was influenced by homes marked by scarcity and repair. This contrasts with my current experience of living in a culture of abundance, where accumulation is constant. Through my work, I reflect on this contrast and question my relationship to the objects I own. By combining clay with reclaimed materials, I create pieces that explore how possessions connect us to memory, identity, and the past.
