Biography
I want to bring up your feelings that lie deep inside on the surface. We have the ability to read things, to read everything in what we understand. Many of my paintings often contain literal or indirect references. Despite any possible similarities, I encourage a more open reading of my work.
Color has a mass of its own that fills all space. I continue to explore my interest in nature beyond this space, and I try to let the painting create itself, create the conditions in which it will grow, become something.
I rely a lot on the nature of the materials I use, so sometimes it's really an exploration, as if you've entered a space you've never been in before and discovered things you didn't even know existed.
Painting is about leaving traces somewhere, just as our lives leave traces in the space, on the walls or in the environment we live in. So I try to leave traces and understand the canvas as a place where things inevitably have been, where events happen, where life happens.
I believe in the idea of professionalism, which some artists don't like. And even if you have a talent for something and you know it will be something worth living for, you have to make an effort.
Natalia Pravda is a contemporary Ukrainian artist, born in 1986 in Dnipro, Ukraine. She graduated from the Pridneprovsky State Academy of Construction and Architecture in 2009. At first she was engaged in monumental painting and bas-relief, and then turned to easel painting and graphics. Over time, she developed her unique voice within figurative abstraction, deeply addressing the human form - especially the female and male nude - as a site of energy, identity and transformation. This is the time of her first achievements in art: 2012-2018 Ukraine group shows such as “Fata Morgana” (Museum “Literary Pridneprovie”), “Germinal” (Dnepropetrovsk Art Museum) and others in Dnipro and Kyiv. Because of the war in Ukraine, logistics, travel, curatorial connections - all this has become more complicated. Many Ukrainian artists find it difficult to build international institutional ties. Nevertheless, Natalia Pravda continues to actively exhibit and sell her work on major international online platforms, and her works are in collections around the world.
Natalia is an artist of immeasurably personal expression, and this is a conscious stance. Her works are quite intimate, bodily and philosophical. Currently she is actively working in the following directions:
Drawing (charcoal, pastel, mixed techniques),
Painting (oil, natural pigments),
Graphic installations and mixed techniques.
Painting in the work of Natalia Pravda is not a technique for the sake of the image, but a process of experience. She works on the edge of abstraction and figurativeness, using the canvas as a space for internal dialog, bodily memory and symbolic language. Non-trivial, lively work with materials - charcoal, pastel, watercolor - creates its own unique artistic imprint. Natalia is an artist of immeasurably personal expression, and this is a conscious position. Her works are quite intimate, bodily and philosophical and she deliberately leaves space for the viewer - for personal interpretation and inner dialog.
