About Paschal Lawton

  • Biography
Hello, my name is Paschal Lawton and as an artist based in the West of Ireland I've been making and selling artworks for about twenty five years now. I have an undergraduate degree from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin where I specialised in Fine Art Print. Though only occasionally formally represented, I have sold and handled shipments to people all over the world. I have participated in many group and open submission exhibitions over the years including the Royal Ulster Academy in Belfast and the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, where I received the Fergus O'Ryan Memorial Painting Award in 2005 and the ESB Moran Award for sculpture in 2014. My motivation for this work is simply that I can't shake my fascination with the primitive magic of image making. We're bombarded daily with visual culture and there seems simply to be a seductive primacy in the act of image-making and the exploration of form: it feels like a wholly natural transaction to me. I normally paint using acrylics and oils on board, and sculpt using a variety of media including polyester and polyurethane resins, concrete, metal leaf and powdered metals. Artfinder has caught my eye because of a) its reach; b) the ingenuity it employs in connecting collectors with artists, and c) its vetting process, maintaining a pool of work at a set level of quality.
