About Oksana Vasylyeva

Biography

In my work, I explore the relationship between nature, emotions and memories. I am particularly drawn to flowers, landscapes and organic forms, which I gradually transform through the use of colour, texture and expressive brushstrokes. Sometimes specific forms remain recognisable; at other times, they dissolve into abstraction, giving the viewer scope for their own associations and interpretations. I work intuitively, allowing the painting to emerge and develop naturally during the creative process. I often begin with a specific vision, yet at the same time I leave room for spontaneity, chance and transformation. Layers of colour, rich textures and expressive brushstrokes gradually shape the surface of the painting, whilst the work itself takes on its own character and direction. At a certain point, I cease to perceive myself solely as the creator and instead become more of an observer of the process unfolding before me. Nature is one of my constant sources of inspiration. I find it in the changing seasons, in the light, in the weather, in the landscape and in the tiny details I encounter on my daily walks. I am also inspired by travel, music, literature, conversations and personal experiences. These impressions often remain somewhere beneath the surface and later resurface in the form of colours, shapes or emotions. For me, a painting is never quite finished – it remains open to interpretation and transformation through its encounter with each viewer.
