  • Biography
Growing up as a country girl in Scotland, I learned from an early age to appreciate the beauty of the landscape around me. My father and grandfather were artists before me and so they taught me how to express that enthusiasm in watercolour paintings.
A cloud formation, hay bales in a field,  a lone tree on the brow of the hill  - they make me want to capture the moment in a painting! The great outdoors is where I love to be and watercolour is the perfect medium for painting my favourite subject - nature- a constant source of inspiration.

My artistic work has been encouraged by acceptance into numerous juried international exhibitions and several awards and I am proud to be a member of the Belgian Watercolour Institute.

    2013

Public's Choice Award at the festival "La Pintura Rapida", Weiskirchen, Germany

The challenge of the "Pintura Rapida" competition was to paint a painting in the town of Weiskirchen, Saarland, Germany within a specified time ( a few hours), based on a topic announced on the day. Each artist's painting was of the same dimensions and there were first, second and third jury prizes. I had won a jury prize at this competition in the past. This time, in 2013, I was delighted that the public gave my painting the most votes.

    2012

Jury prize at the "International Art Exchange Exhibition" in Kobe, Japan

I didn't actually go to Japan for this exhibition but rather my painting was selected by a French jury for participation in the International Art Exchange and sent to Kobe for the exhibition. I was already proud to have got over that hurdle and so I was very surprised to receive notification that the jury had given me an award! The painting was of a Belgian landscape with rolling hills, forests and rolls of hay in a field of stubble in the foreground.

    2012

First prize in the painting competition La Pintura Rapida, Weiskirchen, Germany

I was delighted to receive this award which came with €1000 prize-money in a challenge to paint a painting of the town of Weisklirchen, Saarland, Germany according to a topic dictated by the jury. "Pintura Rapida" means a speedy painting and so it had to be completed within a few hours on the same day.

    2012

Third prize in the 14e Salon International du Cepal 2012, Thionville, France

This was my first award in France inspite of taking part in various competitions there for many years. I started to think the french just have different taste! However, I finally received an award for a painting of a landscape in the Eifel, Germany.

    2011

First Prize at the "Künstlersymposium im Garten der Sinne", Losheim, Germany

I won this prize for painting an impression of a public garden in the popular tourist town of Losheim in Germany.

    2010

Second prize in the painting competition "La Pintura Rapida", Weiskirchen, Germany

I won this award which came with prize-money of €500 for painting a watercolour of the popular spa town of Weiskirchen, Saarland, Germany.

    2009

First prize in the International art symposium at the Linslerhof Hotel, Überherrn, German

This award was given to me by a jury made up of other artists who had organized a painting symposium at the lovely location of the historic Linslerhof hotel in Überherrn, Saarland, Germany. We all chose various subjects around the grounds and my subject - the beer garden! - was the winner.

    2006

Second prize in the international competition of the Saar-Lorraine-Luxembourg region "Künstler der Region"

This was my very first award and so it was very encouraging! It was for my painting Budleigh Salterton. My parents were over in Germany visiting from Scotland and so they were with me when the prizewinners were announced. A proud moment for my Dad because I learned it all from him!
