Original artwork description:

The Sellrain Valley is one of the most spectacular valleys in the region of Tyrol, Austria since it has some of the steepest slopes. It was this aspect that I wanted to capture in my painting. Top left you can see a little church steeple perched on high – it is St Quirin which has been described as the “church on the edge of the abyss”! I think you can see why! The valley’s natural beauty comes at a price and that the local people live with a constant risk of natural catastrophe – it is one of the valleys most affected by landslides and this will surely be heightened by global warming. On this sunny day though, such fears were far from my mind as I attempted to capture the sheer grandeur of this place in watercolour.

“St Quirin, Sellrain Valley” was painted on 300g grain fin Langton watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton paints. It comes with a warm white mount to fit a standard frame size of 50x70cm and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. If you like this painting, you might want to take a look at the rest of my series of Tyrol paintings too.
