  • Biography

Maria Bacha is a Greek painter who obtained qualifications in psychology and psychotherapy before a strong inner desire to search for and discover things about the human soul led her to art. Since then, she's gathered inspiration from nature, colors and materials to compose a visual language marked by mind, body and spirit. Each of her paintings appears bright and optimistic, with visceral qualities and impressive clarity.

Maria Bacha was the head art teacher for more than ten years in a Greek private school, she illustrated books for the Greek public school and she created many set designs for children's theatrical plays. She has focused totally in her art, as an independent full time artist, in the later three years. She is also a member of the Greek Chamber of Fine Arts.

Works by Bacha are in private collections worldwide. To date, her works have been shown at solo, group shows and prestigious art fairs in Greece, London and Los Angeles.

    About her art:

"Nature, colors, and materials inspire me the most. I follow the potentials of the materials, in a free, gestural process, which reminds of free associations in psychotherapy and meditation. I see one point and the whole, almost at the same time, again and again. I release and I hold, add and erase, again and again.  I let my instinct and emotion flow, observing carefully how the elements of art communicate with each other; I form a composition that satisfies my aesthetic, emotional, and spiritual pursuit.

I usually use acrylic combined with pigments and art resin. I work layer after layer, creating transparencies, revealing the best textures and design elements; I bring into being a unique and mysterious atmosphere, in a dynamic and passionate manner, full of energy, close to abstract expressionism.

Nature is always my greater inspiration. Nature inside us, around us, and further away. Yet, all is one. When I paint, I feel deeply connected with nature, the nature inside me and outside, and then time stops. It’s a bliss experience! I work in an artwork or in a group of artworks for a week, months or more. I value the process, as much as the complete work. Therefore, each piece of my work has its own life, needs its own time and is totally unique, a one-of-a-kind. By deepening a specific technique or inspiration, several series take form. My ongoing collections “Hydroexperiences” and “Skyexperiences” are influenced by sea and sky. I feel as a medium, interpreting my experiences, through my mind, body, and spirit into a visual language in my art.

"Lagoon Nebula" collection is inspired by cosmic color sensations and textures. This series reminds of land texture in a unique combination with water, expressed in the art language by color in blue hues, black background and gold elements, as well as by art resin and its wet, transparent sensation. I love art resin because you have to work fast, in full awareness, and you are not allowed for "do overs". Just like in life…

Furthermore, I am always thrilled to know that my art has the power to uplift and bring positivity to my collectors' everyday lives!

For the time being, I enjoy simplicity, clarity and peace in the flow power of liquid pigments of turquoise and blue."
