Memory: Winter Tree on a Summer Night (2017) Original Watercolour by Phyllis Mahon

Winter leans against a small tree with her hair flowing up to entwine the branches.
She wears a beautiful transparent dress and her red fingernails echo the red berries on the tree.
In the background, moonlight is captured in the branches of trees which are in full leaf.
So I feel that this painting is about a memory of summer, or the spirit of winter remembering.

I love painting nudes and then adding filmy, transparent, flowing dresses; it works especially well on this my favourite, beautiful Indian Khadi handmade cotton rag paper.
It is a 12 x 17 inches / 31 x 44 cm, 210 gsm weight paper with a deckled edge; my favourite shades are the muted shades of blue, grey and teal.
Here I've used white, black and brown watercolour on the teal paper
I've created some photographs of how the watercolour would appear framed with the deckled edge featured rather than covered by the mount/matt ...
