The Other Side (2026) Original Oil Painting by Alejandro Faura

The Other Side is part of my series of paintings featuring children and fish, in which I explore memory, identity, and the symbolic space between reality and the inner world. In this work, the child appears in a moment of introspection, while two red fish facing each other suggest the existence of an invisible space beyond what we can see. The painting emerged from my interest in expressing emotions that are difficult to communicate directly and transforming them into symbolic images. Painted in oil on canvas, it combines a more monochromatic treatment of the figure with an intense red background, creating a strong chromatic and emotional contrast. Visible, gestural brushwork adds texture and movement, while the fish act as a recurring element connecting this work to the personal universe of the series.
