Original artwork description:

The two hundredth anniversary of the birth of Charles Pierre Baudelaire (Paris 1821 - 1867) has inspired the creation of his portrait, executed entirely in pencil in a contemporary figurative style. He was one of the most important poets of the nineteenth century and beyond, a key exponent of Symbolism, unruly genius, so as to be called "cursed poet", understood as a deeply tragic figure in search of an unattainable inner peace, and for this reason forced to push to the extreme its limits. His thought, his production and his life have influenced many subsequent authors, even belonging to literary currents and lived in different historical periods, and is still considered one of the precursors of that poetic and philosophy towards society, art, the essence of relationships between human beings, emotionality, love and life that he himself had defined as "modernism". His most famous work, "The Flowers of Evil" (1857), is considered one of the great classics of French and world literature.
