A single sunflower head bends under its own weight, built up with a palette knife until the petals sit as thick, tactile ridges rather than flat colour. Painted in oil on ultra-thick handmade watercolour paper, the surface pulls the paint slowly, so the ridges keep their edge instead of blending smooth. What interested me here wasn't the bloom at its brightest, but the moment just after — the stem still holding its shape while the flower gives in to gravity. 30.5 x 23 cm, unframed, signed on the front.
