Rain, Steam, Momentum (2025) Original Mixed-media Painting by Abi Moffat

88 x 68.5 x 4.5cm (framed)

£1,850

This original abstract expressive painting was created on my year on the Turps Offsite East Sussex programme. This mixed media artwork includes household paint, acrylic paint, emulsion and cut offs of painted canvas adhered to the surface. The main colours are pastel yellows, pinks and crimsons with flickers of bronze.

I allow the materials to guide me, moving between spontaneous gestures and deliberate lines. Brushes, palette knives and sponges become extensions of my subconscious mind, while found imagery from old magazines introduces moments of structure and pause. The sharp lines add in an element of architecture or landscape. The work was influenced by the JMW Turner piece 'Rain, Steam and Speed - The Great Western Railway.' The lines coming from the bottom right corner are a nod to Turner's famous train tracks in this painting.

• Dimensions: 68.5 x 88 x 4.5 cm (framed)
• Medium: Acrylic paint, household paint, emulsion, and magazine collage on canvas
• Ready to Hang: Yes (4.5 cm tray frame in dark walnut brown)

Materials used:

Acrylic, household paint, emulsion, oil bar and collage on canvas
