Pergola (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Lola Juan

120 x 100 x 4cm

£564.46

This artwork emerged from an exploration of structured architecture versus organic human emotion. I wanted to place a figure in a grand, symmetrical space, yet emphasize that her true sanctuary is found entirely within her own mind and the secrets she holds close. I was deeply inspired by classical architectural motifs—arches, columns, and lattice work—blended with the surreal expansion of the subconscious mind. The fiery, split tresses rising toward the sky act as an architectural extension of the self, while the carefully folded paper letter pressed against her heart signifies an intimate, unread narrative. The painting achieves a rare sense of monumental stillness. It invites the viewer to pause and respect the subject's quiet introspection. The rich crimson tones of her garments combined with the structured background create a timeless, almost theatrical atmosphere that commands attention in any space.

Acrylic and texture paste on canvas.
