About Christine Callum McInally

Biography

Drawing and painting have always been my way of expressing my ideas. The people and the environment around me provide unlimited inspiration. Travelling by land and sea, I make sketches, take lots of photos and come home with many painting ideas with which to begin a new series of paintings.
Painting in oils, I love colour and have a variety of working techniques. Currently I'm painting with lots of thin glazes in the classical style, although in the past I have worked in a more immediate way.

I am particularly drawn to the rugged Scottish coastline where land seems to reach out into the sea. Holidays are often spent sailing and walking on the west coast where harbours and cliffs cry out to be painted. I record the moment with watercolour, sketch and a photo, to paint when I return to the studio.
I draw and paint from life and find capturing the individuality of a person a fascinating challenge.
It doesn't seem strange for me to jump from one genre to another and I often try out new techniques to give me a jolt now and again.
