Original artwork description
“Lone dog” incorporates builds on sketches of students, creatives, and business people sitting on the subway (often facing their laptops) in Tokyo (where I go each year for library research and book buying) with the image of scooter riders, ubiquitous in Taiwan. The painting aims to dramatize a tension between wanting to live in one’s mind facing our laptops or to go out into the world and walk a dog along the beach or go out with a group of friends and start jumping off the dock right in front of a sign that says “no jumping.” The photos of the dog and the boys are taken from Old Town, Tacoma. The body of water in the background is Commencement Bay.
