Hebridean Watercolours is an atmospheric coastal artwork inspired by the luminous seas and pale shores of the Scottish Hebrides. Soft turquoise, aqua blue, seafoam and warm ivory drift across the composition, creating an abstract seascape that has the translucent quality of watercolour on paper.

Bands of colour dissolve gently into one another, blurring the boundaries between sea, sand and sky. There is a wonderful sense of distance within the piece: the deeper turquoise water gradually softens towards a delicate shoreline washed with the palest blush and cream. Rather than describing the landscape literally, I wanted to capture the extraordinary clarity of Hebridean light and the fleeting colours that appear when sea and sky seem almost to become one.

For me, this work is about the feeling of standing beside the sea when everything becomes wonderfully still. It holds that particular sense of space and freedom I find in the islands — quiet, luminous and slightly dreamlike. The soft horizontal movement gives the artwork a peaceful rhythm, while the turquoise brings freshness and life.
