About Mark Howard Jones

Biography

The poetry of everyday walks, told through linocut and paint.

Every print begins as a memory map - a drawing made from remembered walks, conversations and fleeting encounters. These fragments become colourful linocuts celebrating companionship and the quiet adventures of everyday life.

I’m a Hampshire-based printmaker and painter, creating colourful linocut prints and paintings inspired by walks with my dog. My work celebrates companionship, adventure, and the small, joyful moments of everyday life, offering a fresh take on social and cultural themes.

I draw inspiration from my local surroundings - people, places, and objects - and explore them through drawing, painting, and printmaking. My art often depicts suburban scenes where dogs and their owners share playful, meaningful connections, bringing movement and energy to each piece.

Walking is central to my practice, shaping compositions, sparking ideas, and giving my work a strong sense of place. I’m also inspired by psychogeography, social realist graphic novels, and wordless books, which influence the storytelling and visual rhythm in my art.

My goal is to turn ordinary walks and everyday encounters into engaging, vibrant artwork that resonates with viewers. Through painting and linocut printmaking, I aim to capture the joy, connection, and adventure found in the world around us.
