Artwork description
Reflection celebrates the magic of childhood walks, where a feather, a puddle and a faithful dog can transform an ordinary afternoon into a small adventure. After a spell of rain, a child wearing a borrowed pair of oversized wellingtons pauses to examine a feather, while their canine companion, usually distracted by squirrels, is captivated by the puddles left behind. It is a small moment of discovery, where ordinary things become extraordinary through the eyes of a child.
The print is rooted in memories of adventures with my first dog, Zipa. Like many of my works, it began as a memory map—a gathering of remembered places, fleeting observations and feelings that have lingered over time. It reflects the excitement and boundless imagination of childhood, when even a short walk could feel daring, magical and full of possibility.
The soft, sugary colours echo the warmth and nostalgia of these memories, capturing the joy and innocence of those early experiences and the deep connections formed through shared adventures.
This original linocut has been created using a three-block relief printing process, with each layer of colour adding depth, texture and a playful sense of movement to the scene.

Coloursafe inks, baren, cutting tools and recycled paper.
