City Bowl (2025) Original Oil Painting by Mieke van Os

90 x 90 x 0.4cm (unframed)

£1,373.23

My hometown. It’s a great place to let your hair down. Still is. I had a really lovely childhood there. People would come from far and wide to go out in the small hours. We’d always park our bikes, have a chat, and then head out together. Carnival, pea soup for everyone. Nice weather? The whole gang sunbathing by the pool. Slathering on the sun cream, of course, with nut oil. Ouch, not good. Wisdom comes with age, or does it?

A work of art that is both figurative – think of an ice cream sundae with a dollop of whipped cream – and abstract – think of a street map in a city guide. It’s both! The centre of my hometown has been painted block by block. If you look closely, you can see strawberries shimmering in the background. The local delicacy. Strawberries and cream: delicious, isn’t it?

The base has been painted with vinyl paint, with oil paint applied over parts of it. This creates an interplay of matt and semi-gloss finishes. A warm, colourful piece that fits surprisingly well in a classic interior, just as much as in a sleek, stylish setting.

Materials used:

oil, vinyl paint, marker, alumium plate
