  • My subjects include animals, buildings, ships, and machines but all suggest in their different ways how being alive feels: childhood, love, becoming a parent and the process of aging.  In recent prints, the sense of a both a shared and solitary human journey is explored with imagery relating to rain and the sea.

I am influenced by British printmaking and graphic art from the early and mid 20th Century.  I like the subtlety of much of the art of this period, which is both humorous and surreal.

Screenprint is essentially a stencil process, and produces thin layers of flat translucent layers of colour.  My screen prints are made using a mixture of traditional and digital mark making processes, to create the separate layers that will be overlaid in the finished print.  The layers are then transferred using a photochemical process to a screen (a fine mesh stretched over a frame) and printed by hand, using a squeegee to push ink through the mesh onto paper.
