  • Biography
    Hello and welcome!

My name is Suzanne and I'm an artist living in Nova Scotia, Canada, and the owner of Sage Mountain Studio.  In college I studied art history and design, and had not considered becoming an artist until I moved to British Columbia, Canada.  Being a newly wed, living in a trappers cabin overlooking a lake surrounded by mountains, I started falling in love with colours, one after the other, until I bought some paints and started exploring.

I began with landscapes because that's what was influencing me at the time.  But it wasn't long before I started looking for different ways to express my love of colour.  Painting abstractly in an expressionist style with a focus on colour and colour relationships was just what I was looking for.  So now I paint in both genres.

After a few years I started exhibiting extensively in galleries, art walks, solo and group shows, art fairs, and markets.  I even held a 10 year residency at a local gallery/cafe.  But now that I've been on the east coast things are a little more laid back.  I live remotely in a rural part of the province and am enjoying the quiet of being surrounded by woods.

I've been painting now for seventeen years both landscapes and abstracts.  My pieces are full of layers and vibrant colours.  In my abstracts I use palette knives and other tools to create depth and interesting surface details.  And although I've always worked primarily in acrylics, I'm starting to get really interested in mixed media.  Painting abstracts to me is all about exploration and experimentation, and I do it in spurts between landscape paintings.  So I feel like I'm always at that exciting stage of accumulating knowledge and trying new things.  Stay tuned to see what comes next.

Thank you for viewing my page.  I hope you enjoy the artwork.
