About Rosi Roys

  • Biography
There are two central categories in my art - flowers and expression. Flowers are my main inspiration and in my work I strive to show the variety of moods, colors, and shapes that I see in flowers through my own techniques. I work with acrylic and it gives me a wide range of technical possibilities from transparent fills that resemble watercolors to pasty expressive strokes. The vast majority of my works are large format, as this size gives full possibilities for revealing the expressive style of my painting. There are three key artists who have influenced my work - Irving Penn, Cy Twombly, and Balthasar van der Ast. In addition to artists, I was greatly influenced by my mother and her large garden with roses. I took this love of flowers from her and now roses from my own garden are often samples for research or simply my inspiration. My interest in art started from an early age, and as a child I attended art school for 6 years, where I learned the basics of drawing. After that, I entered the Lviv National Academy of Art, where I studied for 4 years for a bachelor's degree and another 2 years for a master's degree in monumental painting and a teacher of painting. While studying, I took an active part in joint exhibitions with students. After graduation, I began to develop my own artistic activity more actively, I began to search in the field of abstract expressionism, where I was fascinated by the art of hieroglyphs, and after that flowers became the central motif of my art. Then I decided to adopt the pseudonym Rosi Roys, as it better conveyed the spirit of my work(my real name is Viktoriia Dmytriv).I was able to combine the expression that was inherent in my abstract works with the figurative image of flowers. Now I like to go to joint plein airs or residencies with other artists. It gives me the opportunity to exchange experiences with other artists. I also love online communication and Instagram is a relatively new and important platform for me. It is important for me to get reactions to my art from my community and of course it is an additional platform for selling my paintings. My paintings are also represented on online sales platforms, where I am among the top artists in terms of sales and views of my work. My experience of selling my own paintings is quite wide geographically - almost all countries of Europe, the USA, Japan, Singapore, Australia and during my active artistic activity I have sold more than 150 paintings. Artfinder is an opportunity for me to showcase my work to new buyers and art lovers. I hope that our collaboration would enrich both me and the Artfinder platform. I believe that I can offer a new perspective on flowers at the intersection of abstract expressionism and figuration.
