About Andrew Sabori

  • Biography

I have been painting professionally since is was 18.  My first job was painting rock posters for Bill Graham at the Fillmore West.  After graduating from the University of California Santa Barbara  I dedicated my next 36 years to painting murals in California, Nevada, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey and New York.  In 2008, I reproduced a mural (The Forgotten Mural).  The original hung at Ellis Island until it was destroyed in 1953. The mural plus 35 portraits of famous immigrants has been touring the U.S.  It is currently on display in Albany, GA at the Thronateeska Heritage Museum.

Just completed 2 days of filming on the Forgotten Mural, thanks to Mike Determan and his staff at Backyard Dream. They were able to capture our story and facilitate some great interviews.

Also thanks to Tommy Gregors for allowing The Forgotten Mural an indefinite stay at the Thronateeska Heritage Museum in Albany, GA and welcoming Mike to film there. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product next year.In the meantime, I have also been dedicating most of my time to producing a portfolio of canvas and paper works.  In recent weeks I have been experimenting with a new style of simplicity, figures in black with a slight bit of color.

If you have a favorite photo and want a painting or pencil sketch of it, email me and I will quote you a reasonable price.

    Dates: 25 Jun 2025 - 31 Dec 2025

Venue: Thronateeska Historical Museum, Albany, GA

In 2008, Andrew reimagined Edward Laning's 1938 work, "The Role of the Immigrant in the Industrial Development of America," a WPA initiative. Now known as "The Forgotten Mural" and previously "The Lost Mural of Ellis Island," Andrew's traveling exhibition pays tribute to our ancestors. Unfortunately, the original mural remained unseen by the public, located in a restricted cafeteria. Students from Agassi Prep in Las Vegas participated in the recreation of the painting. The artwork consists of 19 canvas panels, measuring a total of 88 feet in length and heights ranging from 1 1/2 to 4 feet, designed to fit various wall dimensions.
