About Alex Stutchbury
Biography
The majority of my work focuses on my three main passions – sport (in particular Formula One), film and music portraiture.
Formula One cars have always been designed for their aerodynamic efficiency, not their aesthetic quality. However, the beautifully sculpted carbon-fibre bodywork makes every car a piece of art in their own right. I have always been drawn to the detailed shapes of these amazingly intricate car designs. I love the way the reflections fall upon the curved metal, creating abstract patterns which can partially disguise these otherwise recognisable machines. For my portraiture work, I produce both colour and black & white paintings portraying iconic actors and musicians from past and current times. These series focus on the memorable stars, scenes, and the inspiring moments from the stage and silver screen. My inspiration here is a focus on, and an observation of, light and dark on each star's face, as well as the colours hues that create a unique ambiance in these atmospheric compositions. Other interests of mine and commission work have included portraits of politicians and narratives portraying of modern life events.
