Artwork description
My work depicts a city full of life.
Here, people, buildings, concrete, and nature are all intertwined.
At the same time, I show that the city is influenced by external forces: politics, laws, and media. These forces shape its appearance and rhythm.
I have lived in several large cities, from Kyiv to Antwerp, and I have noticed that people often simply live from day to day without pausing to consider why the city is changing and where those changes come from.
It is as if you are looking too closely at a text: you see the letters, but not the whole. In my work, I try to reveal this broader picture.
The two large figures on either side symbolize the forces that influence the city. For each viewer, they may represent something different: politicians, rules, systems.
For me personally, these figures are forces from another world, perhaps those who shape our reality from the outside and draw energy from us. This work is not about answers, but about the question “what if…”: what if the city is changing under the influence of forces we do not notice?
And what if these forces are much greater than we can imagine?
Although the image shows a city, it is in fact a generalization: it could be a country, or even an entire planet, changing in the same way under the influence of visible and invisible forces.
