Original artwork description
This work is a contemporary representation of the Virgin of Covadonga, reinterpreted through a sensitive, present-day artistic lens. The figure conveys recollection, spiritual strength and protection, combining classical elements of Marian iconography with a modern, expressive pictorial language.
The composition is built from warm tones, whites and skin-toned shades, enriched with gold spray details that evoke the sacred, divine light and transcendence. The geometric black and gold background creates a radiating effect that heightens the Virgin's presence, giving her solemnity and visual depth. The expression of the face and the hands in prayer reinforce the sense of peace, faith and contemplation.
It is a centrepiece of great symbolic strength, ideal for quiet spaces, homes, private chapels or collections of contemporary spiritual art.
A devotional portrait resolved with a contemporary sensibility. The figure appears in three-quarter view, hands joined and gaze directed outside the frame, against a gold background from which straight black rays emerge: the classical device of the halo, reduced here to pure flat geometry.
Contrast is what holds the piece together. The mantle and veil are painted with soft glazes of off-white and warm greys, and over them runs gold embroidery — leaves, lilies, a border along the edge of the veil — drawn with a fine brush. The crown, by contrast, is loaded with impasto: filigree, scrollwork and raised settings that catch the real light of the room where it hangs. A red brooch at the neck and a white rose beside the hands are the only two accents breaking the range of golds.
Acrylic on canvas, 40 × 50 cm, signed. It asks for a wall with side light: the gold of the background shifts noticeably depending on the time of day.
